Information about the topics discussed at the symposium
The first topic to be discussed is Artificial Intelligence. The first speaker is Gabriel Weymouth, professor at TU Delft. He will talk about how AI can be applied to hydromechanics and affects humans. Then Fanny Rebiffe from MARIN will talk about autonomous sailing and in particular about a project called AI-Sail. They have learned an algorithm to sail an Optimist in their simulation and test environments at MARIN.
After lunch we will continue with a panel discussion on geopolitics. The panel will consist of Frank Bekkers (HCSS), Marius Ottolini (Heerema), Annet Koster (KVNR), Maarten Vink (Jumbo Maritime) and Richard Keulen (Damen Naval).
The last topic to be discussed is the conversion to alternative fuels. Harry Linskens from DEKC maritime will give a presentation on the conversion of existing ships to alternative fuels. This is essential to meet climate change targets. However, this process has significant implications for both the ship and the operating company. At present, switching to alternative fuels is a trade-off with limited direct economic benefits. The other speaker is still to be confirmed.
